Oral Language Essay

Complete all the required readings and view all the videos. To earn full points for this assignment, explain each
response thoroughly by including details, explanations, and examples that support your writing. Be sure there are
text citations within each paragraph of the essay and a Reference List at the end, on a separate page.

Expectations and Guidelines for Oral Language Essay

For each reading component you will develop an essay that addresses important guided questions. The first
component, Oral Language will be discussed in this first essay.

Resources and Format

Use only the resources provided for oral language – the CORE Textbook, videos, articles
Do not use outside resources – points are deducted should you not follow the “use of resources” guidelines
The format is APA; information within each paragraph must be correctly cited. Keep in mind that you
are developing a paper that is factual information. Authors of factual information must be credited —
cited, it is their work/research, not yours.

At the college level, you must properly cite your sources in all essays

APA in-text citation style uses the author’s last name and the year of publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For
direct quotations, include the page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14). For sources such as websites
and e-books that have no page numbers, use a paragraph number.

Cite web pages in text as you would any other source, using the author and date if known. Keep in mind that
the author may be an organization rather than a person. For sources with no author, use the title in place of an
author. For sources with no date use n.d. (for no date) in place of the year: (Smith, n.d.).Jul 19, 2023. Refer to the

Content of Oral Language Essay

When responding to the guided questions a “thick” explanation and discussion is required. There must be a high
degree of understanding (thick explanations) and this cannot be achieved without reading the CORE textbook,
articles and observing the videos.

Guided Questions:

1. (a). What is oral language? Provide a detailed description of oral language. (b). When and how is language
learned? (c) How is language nurtured?

2. (a) What are the major aspects of oral language development? Provide a detailed and clear explanation of
each of the major aspects of oral language development. (b) Provide specific examples of oral language

development (at least 3 or 4). (c) Discuss how parents and teachers can develop oral language in students (at
least 3 or 4 ways).

3. (a). Fully discuss why oral language development so important to literacy development. (b). What is the
relationship between oral language and learning to read?

4. (a) Name and fully discuss and explain things that should be in place in a classroom and/or school environment
to support students in developing oral language. (b) Discuss specifically what should be seen and used in a Pre-K
, Kindergarten and First Grade classroom environment. (c) Name and explain a minimum of 5 strategies to help
students develop oral language.

Differentiate each part of the essay, for example there are 4 guided questions, each should be addressed
individually in paragraph format.

Submit: Oral Language Essay

1. “Thick” (detailed explanations for each question). Citations within the paper must be included and in
APA format.

2. List of References on a separate last page, must be APA format and from the list of resources provided.
A minimum of 5 resources.

3. Format for ALL written assignments:

Times New Roman

Size 12 font

Single Space

4. ESSAY: A minimum 2 pages, maximum 4 pages.

Points are deducted if the format is not adhered to, List of References was not included, or citations were
not included within your paper or references not in the resources provided.
