• Sir Robert Peel implemented his Nine Principles to give guidance to the newly formed New Westminster Police Service.  How many of these nine principles are still being used in law enforcement today?  List the principles that are still used today, if they have changed – what would they be known as today? 
• The police use of physical force is a topic that is always in the daily news or a topic of debate, especially when someone is injured or killed.  Using the internet, research recent examples of police use of force incidents (from your community or area if possible) and the response of the public and the police.  Do you feel the response was justified by the public?  Was the police response justified?  Why or why not?
• You are a new police applicant, with the goal of becoming a full-time police officer.  You have been selected for an interview with your local police department, and one of the questions asked is to discuss one of Peel’s Principles.  Choose one of the nine principles and examine the implications for law enforcement today.
