Race, ethnicity, religion, and immigrant identity: Where do you come from? How do you see yourself in the society and community that you live in? What is your family’s immigrant history? Are there any identities – ethnic, cultural, or religious – that most define who you are? Which sociological perspective – conflict, functionalist, labeling, feminist – works well to explain your relationship to the above identity categories and helps you to understand and make sense of your life and position in society?
Think about the above questions and write essay exploring and examining your own identity vis a vis the arguments about subordinate and dominant status creation in the United Sates. In other words, do you see yourself as a minority in any way? Are you part of the dominant group? While you are writing this essay based on your personal experience, you are required to look at your story through a sociological lens.
